Twenty years ago I was introduced to Eugene Yaw Amponsah. Yaw taught at the camp that summer and then encouraged me to take a group of students to study with his father, Koo Nimo, in Kumasi. It was the beginning of a twenty year relationship with Koo and his group. Since that time Vashon Percussion has visited six times. This summer will mark twenty years and seven trips to study the culture and drumming.
